Who is Jan Potter? Jan Potter, is a professional entertainer, educator, speaker and artist. This College of St. Rose graduate, known for her exciting in-school programs, has received rave reviews for her anti smoking, dental health, values, and reading shows. Senior citizens marvel at Jan’s programs focusing on laughter and reducing stress; looking at life from the “funny side up” with puppet Grandma Hazel.
Jan, created Cranberry Productions in 1980 specializing in ventriloquism, magic and clowning for schools, promotions, festivals, and birthday parties. The former “City Puppeteer of Albany, NY” and elementary school art teacher creates most of her puppet characters.
As an entertainer in the guise of Cranberry the Clown, Jan has performed for three Governors, the Society of Magicians National Convention, the Clowns of America International Convention and the World Clown Convention. She has appeared on radio and television and has presented at conferences in Florida, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Virginia and New York.
In 1991, Jan was featured in Ripley’s Believe It or Not. Her unusual wedding, at the Altamont Fair in NY, was attended by over 3,000 fans. Jan, as Cranberry, and her puppet Sara, as maid of honor, were escorted by nine clown bridesmaids. The Royal Hannaford Circus assisted as Jan married the Snow-A-Ranger, creator of “The Great Adirondack Snow Dance.” Jan’s huge white clown shoes are now part of the collection of the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto.
“There are not too many people who can truly say they love what they do. I am one of the fortunate who can say I love spreading smiles whether I’m teaching in my unique way, or performing for kids or kids at heart.” - Jan Potter |
